Meet the staff
Hilltop Nurseries was started over 45 years ago by John and Muriel Heyhoe and is now run by their daughter Lesley.
Lesley worked for a high street bank for 14 years before taking over the family business in 1995. She is a keen to see the business grow but wants to keep the ethics of value and quality that the business is known for. The other passion in her life is her horse.
Ruth is the longest serving member of staff. She is Muriel’s sister and has worked here for 40 years. Together with her team, they grow and produce all of the plants that are grown on the premises plus they make up all the hanging baskets, outdoor and indoor planters.
Alison runs the shop. She is very organised, efficient and likes everything in its own place and woe betide you if it isn’t. She is also Lesley’s right hand woman.
David studied horticulture at Brackenhurst College and worked for Gedling Borough Council in the parks department before joining us in 1999. He looks after and orders the shrubs plus he holds the Horticultural Trades Association Gold award for shrub and plant management.
Liz has also worked for us for over 20 years. She is a very keen gardener, loving all things pink and is very knowledgeable on alpines and herbaceous plants.
Chris is our lifter, shifter and chief sweeper upper. He looks after the yard, helps the customers, does the deliveries and cuts the grass.
Jane is bright and bubbly and although she has never worked in horticulture before, what she lacks in experience, she makes up for in enthusiasm. She is a very keen gardener
Chris C (Minty) works in the yard, fetches, carries and generally helps out where needed.
Leah is Lesley's niece and the 3rd generation to work at Hilltop. She is currently doing an Apprenticeship in Horticulture whilst getting some on the job experience.
